it snowed yesterday! And I stayed home and crocheted and watched holiday movies. Today I wanted to get out of the house. In Virginia when there is just an inch of snow the snow plows and salt trucks are out in force!! Today I found out that in Montana they don't bother plowing for that much.... so that is fun!
I went to City Brew and enjoyed a peppermint mocha and I decided to go to Canyon Creek after. I was here Friday night for a Relay for Life event. Good cause! I joined the team this year. I lost my brother to melanoma a few years ago and two of my three sisters have battled breast cancer. I will be donating a blanket to them to raffle or silent auction off again. The team is Believe in Angels. Our leader Vikki makes caramels for a cause that are amazing and addictive. Good people, good cause.
Canyon Creek has a new Black Cherry Stout. I haven't picked a favorite beer here until now. This is hands down the best. Tastes like a cherry coke. Super smooth. 39 IBU 6.4% ABV.
SOOOOO VERY DELICIOUS! I have to remember my growler next time.
Ok, back to crocheting.. 12 squares left to make!!!
It's that time of year where we drink hot cocoa, go see holiday light shows, see the latest holiday movie and think about what we want to give for presents. Typically, I am not a huge fan of Hallmark movies. They exceed the sap factor even for me. HOWEVER, holiday movies are a vortex a person can get lost in... and I did... I am a sucker for them. All Christmas movies seem to have one thing in common-the magic of Christmas wishes. I, personally, still believe in the magic of Santa Clause and all he represents. I believe in the kindness in the world and in people. I believe that love wins. I believe in Christmas wishes. Sure I could wish to win that lottery, or to lose weight effortlessly, or (and this is a HUGE ONE) to meet that person in life I could love and trust, but those simply are not what I want as Christmas wishes. My magical Christmas wishes are for the world. Peace and love are what I wish for and truly want for the world.
If you are visiting this blog and site, it is probably not my witty repartee that brings you here, but instead my impeccable craftsmanship. (Though I am FLATTERED if it is both!!!) You may be looking to get something special for a loved one for the holidays. Well, I have a present for you!!! Here is a coupon code for Cyber Monday shopping. It is valid through 11/29/16. It is for 20% off all orders over $125 and good on existing store products. The code is "cybermonday20". So happy stress-free online shopping, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, all of it!
Have a wonderful Holiday Season!
I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving day yesterday. I moved from my home in Virginia to Montana this year. This year I did not spend the holiday with close family. I've done that in the past, done my own thing. This year I did miss the family chaos some. The board games, the re-telling of our embarrassing stories, and the raucous laughter that is a day spent with family. I found myself questioning my choice to move., but then I went outside to get a cup of coffee, sit and crochet at the coffee shop, and work on my blog and my small business. I love the fresh air here. I love the mountain views. Everyone is almost always in a good mood here. If you are from the NOVA area, you understand the contrast that is. When I'm asked why I moved, that is always one of my points. The folks here in Montana that I've met, they live in the present. I simply don't know how else to explain this, they are more relaxed. The pace isn't necessarily slower, but it is more easy going. So while I did very much miss the day with my sons and daughter-in-law, my close family and close friends, and I REALLLLLY missed cooking the Puerto Rican pork dish accompanied by the arroz y gandules that my former mother-in-law taught me to make, I'm still quite content with the decision to be here in Montana, at least for the time being still. I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to move this year.
So now here it is the day after Thanksgiving and there are sales everywhere. Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday, a chance for consumers to support small businesses everywhere. I've added a coupon, you can all use at checkout to save an extra 10% off any blanket in the store. shopsmall is the code. #smallbiz #ShopSmall #SmallBizSat If you are looking for something special for someone who is tough to please or for that person who HAS EVERYTHING, you cannot go wrong with a handmade gift. You just can't go wrong with it. Everyone loves handmade blankets. I was once asked what makes my product different than one you can buy for $10-15 at department store. What makes my product different is the handmade craftsmanship. They are not only beautiful and cozy, they are practical. No special care needed. Toss them in the washing machine and then the dryer. They last for DECADES.... just the way a family heirloom should. The coupon expires 11/29/16, so act FAST!
If you want to have a custom made blanket, I can do that. However, time has passed where I can promise a delivery prior to any holiday in December. You can message me about options and prices.
Right now I'm working on one of my favorite patterns. I'm hoping to have this one done in time to add it to the store next week. I do have 2 custom blanket orders after that, and a custom hat/scarf request. I started the blanket I'm working on now when I was at Canyon Creek a couple of weekends ago. While I was there I had wings from Noah's BBQ. OMG..can't even tell you how good they were...I had the BBQ flavored wings. I cannot handle spicy. You know when you ask people if something is spicy and they say "noooo, not to me...", that means to me be prepared because it is always too much for me. So I stuck with BBQ. I had been wanting to try this food truck since the first time I passed it and it smelled like a backyard BBQ. Noah has this great dog, Max, who sits on the top of his pickup truck while Noah is working in the food truck. Noah is the BIGGEST shepherd I have ever seen in my entire life. BIG DOG...and the sweetest teddy bear of a dog you have ever met. You can follow Noah's BBQ food truck on facebook to find where he is and get some BBQ!
I also tried a new beer at Canyon Creek, it is called the Helga German Blond. It is a sweeter version of the One Night Stand Blonde. It has a 22 IBU and 6.0 ABV. Goes down smooth and has a higher ABV than the One Night Stand version. Just as refreshing as it's sister brew! GOES GREAT W/ BBQ!!!!
Today at City Brew, I tried the Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha (with an extra shot). Nothing gets you into a holiday mood faster than a hint of peppermint! I realllly reallllly do not like white chocolate. Never have. I have to say this ok. I like their Salted Caramel White Chocolate latte better. I will probably try the mint again, but I think I will ask for normal chocolate or dark chocolate.
Ok, I have to get back to my crocheting! Don't forget about the 10% off code - shopsmall!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Enjoy this holiday season!
i wanted to do a second post because I did indeed stop to get a pint of the Jack the Ripper porter at Canyon Creek. Soooooooo that is aptly named! Whew. ❤️. It is the RIP porter but made in a Jack :Daniel barrel. I know several people who would enjoy this AND I am god there are strict serving limits here in MT. They can only sell 3 pints to one person at the brewery. State laws. But at a 7.3%ABV that is more than enough. I'd recommend a designated driver! This beer has that nice whisky flavor but to me it has a finish of chocolate and caramel notes. I don't know a thing about beer, but I like that!
Starting a new blanket to sell on the website. Another favorite of mine. I love the bright colors.
Ok, later folks!

Last night I went back to Canyon Creek to work on a baby blanket. It is a lovely baby blanket made in gray Bernat Blanket yarn. So many people are doing more neutral colors in nurseries and this turned out really beautiful. (If I do say so myself...) I realized that I goofed on the beer I tasted the week before. There are 2 porters there at Canyon Creek. I did have a sip of the Jack the Ripper version a couple of weeks ago, but last week I had the RIP Porter. I gotta tell you both are very very very good. I do want to try a full glass of the Jack the Ripper one though. I may go back tonight to rectify this error. (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! HA!!)
So last night I learned about Growlers and Grunts. With it so close to Halloween, I realize that could be a discussion of zombies..but it isn't. (I'm HILARIOUS!...and FYI no I'm not currently enjoying a beer...or any adult beverage...) Growlers are 64oz jugs and Grunts are 32oz jugs. The server broke that down for me by pints/glasses.. 4 glasses in a Growler and 2 in a Grunt. Obviously, I bought the Growler (duh)... I decided to have it filled with something different so I got the Cold Creek Scottish that has a 22 IBU and 5.9% ABV. It has a nice smokey taste. I wanted pizza for dinner and it was perfect with the pizza. A Papa Murphy's take and bake Cowboy pizza (peperoni, sausage, mushrooms, olives, onions...YUM). I was a happy camper knitting at home last night!
In Virginia folks take the kids to vineyards with them for an afternoon outside while the adults get to enjoy a glass of wine. Here in Montana, they go to the brewery. Dressed up in their costumes and enjoying their day! I love watching the kids at Halloween. Adults were dressed up as well. Halloween isn't just for the kids! So I think I'm going to go run a few quick errands and then go have one of the Jack the Ripper brews because just like Halloween, that seasonal beer won't be here long.
Remember there are items on sale on my website and the holidays are now quickly approaching. You can get an additional 15% off by joining the members list! Nothing says "I love you" like a handmade item (even if you didn't make it, you thought enough to get it for them!) If you want a custom order, just send me a message, though timing is really tight now and I can't guarantee a delivery in time for the holidays at this point. But I will try.

I love working on custom order items. To be able to make something special to someone in NFL colors or University colors is fun! And to be able to do this activity from anywhere is even more fun! I'm back at Canyon Creek having the Rattle Snake Shandy again. It is the grapefruit shandy. I wanted to have it one more time because I think it is seasonal. It is refreshing! Goes great with crocheting that's for sure. Blues music playing, fire pit roaring, and perfect weather to sit outside as the sun sets and crochet. ❤️. I should be done with this blanket by Tuesday at the rate I'm going. Yayyy!
Y'all have fun with your football games today. I'm going back to my project!
I tried that RIP porter again. The one made in Jack Daniels barrels. It is sooo tasty. Smooth smoky finish. I am betting that would be great paired with some good BBQ.
Today I did my knitting from City Brew for several hours. The one off of Shilo. I enjoyed an iced pumpkin latte while knitting and people watching. There were other knitters there today too! I had tunnel vision working on my blanket so I didn't chat too much.
Then I went to Canyon Creek for a blonde ale. As always the "One night stand Blonde" hit the spot. It was a great night to sit outside by the fire pit and finish my blanket and drink my ale. Made a couple of new friends, Tom and Di (I hope I spelled her name right..). Tom let me taste his beer. I'm going to have that next time. It is the "Jack the Ripper" porter aged in a Jack Daniel's barrel. That is the highest IBU I've had so far. I'm surprised I liked it. But it is SMOOOOOOOTH! 39 IBU and 7.3 ABV. It really is relaxing to sit outside there and knit. Great music today, I loved when Dusty Springfield came on, Son of a Preacherman.....sooooo difficult to not sing along!! ❤️
The blanket turned out beautiful! Green Bay Packers colors! Now that I'm done with that one, the next blanket is a custom order baby blanket in Louisiana State University colors! I'll start that this week. First I have to put together a desk....😬. Knitting and crocheting instructions are easier!!!!
I hope everyone had a great weekend, and that you have a wonderful week!
Toodles for now!
i am knitting a custom request knitted blocks blanket in gold and green for a Green Bay Packers fan! I LOVE this pattern. I have 6 gold panels done. Now working on the 6 green panels. It is made knitting with 2 skeins at one time to create the bulky hearty look. If you are interested in one, send me a message from the contact page on this website.
Sippin' n Knittin' on a beautiful day at Canyon Creek Brewery. They have a new seasonal ale. CREEKTOBERFEST! Their version of a pumpkin ale. 23 IBU AND 5.9 ABV. it is extremely tasty. I've never been a big fan of pumpkin ales but this one is truly just a hint of pumpkin spice! I reallllly like this one! It is a red ale. So I am learning to like more than just the blonde ales!
So, I am not going to lie to you. I am absolutely tipsy from this dark ale. I have a designated driver so allll is coooool man! But that beer lives up to its description of being smooth and dangerous! At Canyon Creek Brewing, the "What the Hell" black malt liquor dark beer has an IBU of just 23 but an ABV if 9.0.....whew am I glad I have a DD today! I've been able to knit a few rows but I've had to put it to the side for a moment for fear of dropping a stitch! I have to say it did take my back and muscle pain away. I went to the gym this morning and was a tad achy...but not any more!
Ok. EFY (Enchanted Fairy Yarnowrks) OUT for the eve! Back to my Sippin' N' Knittin'! Y'all have a great night! ❤️ you man!!!
Hey Y'all!!! I took a small break from posting because I was afraid I was over posting 😁! I'm back at City Brew today. Pumpkin Spice Frappe to sip on ❤️. I felt like it was a "win" to pass on the pumpkin roll with that cream cheese filling. But that was difficult to say no to!!! I will cave eventually. The struggle is REAL people!
Working on that sock yarn shawl again. Actually it is a ruana. The back is done. I've split it into two now and am working on the shoulders and the fronts now. So I'm using 2 cakes/balls of yarn at a time, one for each side. I'm getting excited to wear it. The weather in Montana has already turned to fall weather. The nights are so wonderfully cool! It snowed/mixed precipitation on Labor Day with rainbows in the sky! I loved it! I was asking an office mate today where to go to see the leaves changing. I think I'm going to take a drive this weekend up into the mountains. 🏔
Ok ok enough chatter from me! Have a great day everyone!
